Visian® ICL™ is a surgical phakic intraocular lens for myopia and hyperopia.
Are you seeking an alternative to LASIK surgery that’s equally convenient but involves fewer complications or risks?
The Visian ICL is a new alternative procedure, similar to cataract surgery, that allows people with even high myopia or hyperopia the chance to achieve crystal clear vision.
Although LASIK surgery has very low risks involved, Visian ICL is a great option for people who already face severe dry eye symptoms or are not an ideal candidate for LASIK due to their eye shape, the thickness of the cornea, or general eye health. Visian ICL offers a unique intraocular lens implant that doesn’t involve removing any tissue from the cornea but rather adds a new additive vision correction. The natural eye works with its natural lens to receive light and direct to the optic nerve, while the Visian ICL lens rests safely behind the iris to work in tandem with the rest of your body chemistry. The artificial lens acts as a medium between the natural lens and the cornea to greatly enhance visual acuity.
Aside from the flexibility that you can opt to remove the Visian ICL insert, in the event of a large prescription change or needed adjustment, the Visian ICL also provides an added benefit of UV Ray protection to preserve the health of the eye. There’s even improved night vision!

About the Procedure to install a Visian Lens
First, a Pre-Op Peripheral Iridotomies is planned, 2-3 weeks before the procedure, where numbing drops will be applied to the eye by your ophthalmologist. Then, the doctor will create 2 tiny openings in the iris. This will encourage proper fluid flow after the Visian ICL is implanted.
The actual procedure takes only 20-30 minutes, and the Visian Lens will be inserted at the base of the cornea. The procedure is quick and painless as numbing medication will be applied beforehand. Once the procedure is over, more eye drops will be required to clean the eyes. You will need someone to drive you home post the surgery.
Post the installation of the Visian Lens
Many patients will notice an immediate improvement in their vision after the surgery, yet over the next 48 hours, your eyes will need to adjust and heal from the surgery.
Don't rub your eyes! Especially over the next 3-5 days, rubbing can be dangerous.
A post-op check-up will be scheduled, so your eye doctor can evaluate your eyes' health and inform you when you can drive and return to normal daily activities.
