However, while LASIK can help correct refractive vision conditions (such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, presbyopia and astigmatism), it cannot correct every type of vision disorder.

LASIK does not effectively correct:
- Cataracts – typically found in people over age 60, cataracts are a clouding of the eye’s lens. Specialized cataract removal surgery offers treatment, not LASIK.
- Glaucoma – a group of eye diseases that damage the optic nerve, which can lead to vision loss and blindness. LASIK may be an option to improve vision for people with glaucoma, but it is not a treatment for eye disease.
- Amblyopia – lazy eye is a muscle-related disorder that is often treated with vision therapy.
- Keratoconus – this corneal disorder causes the cornea to bulge and become cone-shaped, leading to distorted vision. LASIK is not suitable for people with keratoconus, because it can worsen the condition.
