3 Tips To Soothe Your Dry Eyes This Winter

foggy eyeglasses Fort Worth, TX 640×350

It’s indoor heating season! And for many people, that also means dry eye season. People are  more susceptible to DES in the winter because space heaters, fireplaces, and central heating systems all reduce moisture, leaving your eyes exposed to dry air.

Seasonal changes like reduced humidity and allergen-bearing breezes also contribute to dry eye syndrome.

Some common symptoms of dry eye syndrome are red, gritty, watery, irritated, and burning eyes. Those with DES may also experience blurred vision.

If you or a loved one are experiencing any symptoms of DES, contact Eyeworks in Ft. Worth, Southlake, or Downtown.

Here Are 3 Tips For Soothing Your Dry Eyes This Winter

  1. Stay Hydrated

Maintaining proper hydration is essential to producing sufficient tears. Your tears provide a continually moist, comfortable, and cleansed environment for your eyes.

So why not drink more hydrating fluids like water, milk, juice, tea, and coconut water to naturally support healthy tear production?

  1. Use a Humidifier

Make sure to combat the indoor dryness from heating systems with a cool-mist humidifier. Try to position the humidifier next to your office desk or night table, or wherever you spend the most time. And when you do use a heater, make sure the hot air flow isn’t blowing directly into or near your eyes.

  1. Wear Sunglasses

Sunglasses aren’t just for the summertime. Make sure to wear 100% UV blocking sunnies whenever outdoors to shield your eyes from harsh winds that can make your tears evaporate too quickly.
